PhD Application Info

Before further communication, I would like to know more about you.

Some essential requirements are normally expected by the NZ university.

Please refer to:

https://calendar.waikato.ac.nz/regulations/higher/phd

  1. Do you have a Bachelor degree with honour that has a research component that meets NZ PHD entry requirement? Or

  2. Do you have a Master with research components more than 30 points, i.e., has a course titled “Research method (or the like)” and a dissertation component? or

  3. NZ may accept research experiences to be equivalent but this is not straight forward as the above, and

  4. Master transcript with an average A- (B+ would need prospective supervisor support).

If you believe that you are eligible and fulfil the requirements above,

then there are some other items to ponder over.

  • Do you have a scholarship, self-funded or you are relying on prospective scholarships? Getting NZ scholarship is not easy and normally applicants would have A/A+ minimum in the master degree and other criteria would apply to compete.

  • If your MBA has a course titled “research method” and you have done a dissertation. Then my advice is that you should highlight it in the title on your application  - i.e.,  Master of Business Administration with Research.  The expression for the admission office is that MBA degrees might be based on course works only. In addition, if your bachelor degree has the research component, you might also highlight it at some point, particularly if it is considered equivalent to NZ honour.

  • As for the topic, my suggestion is that

  • Select a topic that you could likely get data with your capacity.

  • The topic is related to the research method that we are both capable to work on.

My research area is more related to health systems, or emerging technology, and enterprise systems (ERP).

Please feel free to let me know your responses to the items above.

Then we may discuss further the application time, possible entry time, and an initial proposal to submit to the admission office.
